Actually it’s me…

I received a call from Fordham University’s Graduate School of Religion last night informing me of a great honor: I’ve been named a Sapientia et Doctrina Award in recognition of my work with young adults.

I chaired the awards banquet for a few years, but most of the committee members I served with have now moved on to other things. So it’ll be a fun trip back to New York to be with old friends and family for a wonderful night. I don’t make a speech, I merely receive the award and pose for some pictures and try to look like the cocktail hour really didn’t get me buzzed. A fun time is sure to be had.

A second reason for feeling so honored is that I’m a graduate of the school and also of Fordham College, the University’s main undergraduate school. Fordham was where I first felt the call to ministry, and it was there that I developed the book Googling God, which is essentially an edited version of my Master’s thesis. For me there’s no greater honor.

So a big thank you to the Dean of the school, Fr. Anthony Ciorra and the committee and to Donna Spigorolo, a colleague who nominated me to the committee.

The awards ceremony isn’t until October 21, 2011—so mark your calendars New Yorkers. Fordham.edu/gre will have more details as we get closer.
