As Memorial Day falls upon us, I ask you to remember those who have gone before us and given us freedom. Whether in war or in protection of country, or for those who give us inner freedom: counselors, confessors, or even good friends, freedom never comes easy. There is always a painful price to pay.
I’d also ask your prayers for a personal situation. I’m not at Liberty to share this here in the open blogosphere but suffice it to say that it is weighing on me and a quick prayer or two couldn’t hurt.
I’ll be taking some time off over the next few weeks to attend a think tank at the Collegeville Institute in Minnesota on vocations. I will then head to Notre Dame again the following week to be a participant in the Frank J. Lewis Institute for first-time Campus Ministers. I had such a nice reflective time at Notre Dame last week that I am grateful to be at least somewhat centered as this week has been filled with unexpected struggles. I hear that Collegeville is just as bucolic and should serve as a nice, reflective place as well.
In short, this memorial day, may we remember each other, especially as the heat of the summer allows us to commune with nature and be united with the beauty that God provides us.
