On a lighter note, today is the 6th birthday of everyone’s favorite chihuahua, my dog Haze. Not that I need an excuse to write about my dog, because I am clearly obsessed with him.

My wife and I don’t have children, so Haze the Dog has filled that void. Right now he’s sniffing my keyboard and paws at my typing fingers, begging for attention at least until Marion sits at the kitchen counter and then off he goes, hoping to grab a scrap or two–or he’ll bark until someone gives in and gets him a treat.

His trainer called him “extremely intelligent” and “one of the smartest dogs” she’s worked with—so we’ve gotten him plenty of puzzles in which he’s got to work hard to get food–his favorite thing. He even knows the words “food” and “treat.”

So today I am thankful for a dog. He is the best form of therapy for me and gives me unconditional love and reminds me to love others in the same way. I know God gave me this dog to teach me about care for all of his creation and to be able to see God in all things.

That looks like it’s working out well.

Happy Birthday to the six year old Haze the chihuahua…enjoy your birthday treats.
