From ESPN:
“I want to share that I have tested positive for COVID-19. This virus is serious and should not be taken lightly,” Ewing said in a statement. “I want to encourage everyone to stay safe and take care of yourselves and your loved ones. Now more than ever, I want to thank the health care workers and everyone on the front lines. I’ll be fine, and we will all get through this.”
Ewing’s statement
A personal note here, Ewing was one of my all time favorite players and I got to interview him briefly in the locker room once after a Knicks game when I was still in the biz. The only thing I remember was how gigantic he was, but also how soft-spoken he was as well.
He’s now the Head Coach at Jesuit-run Georgetown where he played his college ball and led the Hoyas to their only National Championship in 1984. Let’s ask St. Ignatius to intercede for Patrick today as we pray for his health.
And let’s enjoy this clip as we do so and marvel at how incredible he was:
and if you’re like me and you enjoyed ESPN’s “The Last Dance”, here’s Ewing on the GOAT Michael Jordan.
